The United States of Twitter

Our friends at Geekologie have released this interesting map “America According to Twitter,” which highlights the city kick names Twitter users list as their locations. I’m from Columbus, Ohio and have never heard it called “Bucktown,” but the others seem familiar. Sending love from my new place in the States, El Lay.

Nerd Alert!

As if today – National Star Wars Day – wasn’t nerdy enough, I caught this Geek Zodiak via Guy Kawasaki‘s Twitter. It was accurate for me: Super Hero. I mean, I lived in my Wonder Woman Underoos when I was a kid, and as I stated earlier, “I’m a Mac,” which according to that infographic, means I can be condescending.

May the Fourth be with you.

I’m a Mac.

We really are different! Not like we needed an infographic to prove it, but this very cool one from maps it all out for us. Based off a recent Hunch study, the infographich shows that us Mac users account for less than 11 percent of the world market share. Mac users tend to be younger, more liberal, urban and like to be seen as different (no surprises here). What else about did Hunch find out about Mac users?

  • We like to party. Mac users are 50 percent more likely to throw a party than a PC user.
  • We suck at math. PC users are 38 percent more likely than Mac users to be able to solve an equation (but we’re better at conjugating verbs, so take that).
  • We’re sophisticated kind of pretentious. Preferring a Vespa to a Harley. Pellegrino to Pepsi. Shwarma to a Patty Melt.
  • We consider ourselves early adopters. – Think those insanely long lines for the iPad 2.

What are you? A Mac or PC?

Social Media Monitoring – Who’s using it and how?

Once again Flowtown has created an informative chart: This time on social media monitoring tools. Anyone working in social media has to quantify their work, and we’re always looking for the most accurate way to do so. This is an interesting look at what’s out there, who’s using it and how. We found it most interesting to see that the majority of people using Twitter have just one account, and 23.4 percent are on Twitter solely for personal use. Click here for the full report.

Translating a Hipster

Holy Toledo! Remind us to take a copy of this with us next time we have a meeting in Silverlake.

A big thanks to the folks at Cracked for breaking it down for all the squares out there.

Who’s on social media?

Marketers are constantly trying to figure out just exactly 1. Who is using social media? and 2. What are people doing while on these social networks?

Well this cool infographic by KISSmetrics maps out a nice visual answering the first question.

Gender-wise, Twitter and Facebook are split down the middle, however the ladies lead the pack on MySpace, representing 64 percent of its users.

Another interesting highlight on the infographic is that Twitter has the greatest division of wealthy users (27 percent). With 37 percent of its users holding a bachelor’s degree, Twitter also boasts the largest division of users with a secondary education.
